Summer has officially started... although we’ve Summer has officially started... although we’ve been enjoying the relaxing, warm days for quite a while now. This will be a summer for the books. (Long post warning) There’s no doubt the Bible c (Long post warning) There’s no doubt the Bible calls us to be gracious to others (Ephesians 4:32, 1 Peter 3:8), but mama’s we ought to be gracious with ourselves too. I’m continually reminding myself of this. My kids have been sick all last week and it continued through the weekend. Sunday night I got home from another ER visit at 3am. Late nights. Lots of crying. No sleep. Another trip to pharmacy. More antibiotics. What does that mean for our week? What does it mean for homeschooling, errand running, activities and plans? It means I won’t get a good nights rest, it means my mind and body will be tired, it means their minds and bodies will be tired, it means I will be edgy and will have to be mindful of my attitude. It means they will be tired and I have to mindful of that too. It also means saying “no” to some fun, it means we will fall behind in curriculum (which is why they won’t get into Harvard), it means the house won’t be tidy, laundry won’t get done, and their will be dishes in the sink (the audacity!) It means our to-do list gets thrown out... it means then the trash will be full. Ha! It means I won’t have great content to post on social media so I will lose two followers (how will I ever recover?). And it most definitely means that’s all okay! Cramming everything in we usually do, will not work. We’re too exhausted! Basically here’s what it means: more snuggles, less cleaning, more pj time, less going out, more tears, less smiles, less expectations, more grace. It means leaning on Christ because only he will give strength to power through. It will be okay! April 8th was National Zoo Lover’s Day! Visiting April 8th was National Zoo Lover’s Day! Visiting the zoo is one of our favorite experiences as a family. For the past nine years we have made about a hundred trips to the zoo. We have enjoyed the many hours in the great outdoors and seeing all kinds of animals. We’ve been fortunate enough to have visited seven different zoos in four different states. Each one has something unique and special to offer. Although I am not a zoo expert, I’ve picked up a few tricks that have helped our experience go a little smoother on the wallet and on my sanity. I’m working on it. I used to think peace is rese I’m working on it. I used to think peace is reserved during the Christmas season 😂 But in reality it’s fruit of Holy Spirit living in our lives on a daily basis. Peace can be often tested during serious trials and tribulations. How can we have peace during times of uncertainty: health issues, financial struggles, doubts, job changes, or even death of a relative? How can I have peaceful home and heart as a tired stay at home mom? Whether we storm seasons of hardships or days of hardships I have found only one way to have true peace: lean on Christ. Sounds very cliche but it’s true. Only He can grant true eternal, long-lasting peace. All other ways give you a false temporary reassurance. So I pray for peace and rely on His peace. I haven’t perfected it. I struggle. Yesterday I failed. Today I prayed that God equips me to do better. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. I didn’t even notice it happening but it did. I started complicating life with my overthinking. I started over analyze, over worry, overwhelm and clutter my heart and my home with things and ideas that don’t matter. I’m on a journey back. A journey to simplicity. Decluttering my home. I’ve noticed that thoughts of doubt creep in my I’ve noticed that thoughts of doubt creep in my life when I am least grounded in truth; when I neglect my personal time with the Lord. Apostle Paul writes in Ephesians 6. “Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil." How can I (we) stand firm if I (we) don’t daily arm ourselves spiritually. Putting on spiritual armor is not a one time deal but a consistent daily lifestyle. There is a real spiritual battle happening right now. One side is rooting for your victory. The other side will do anything to see you defeated.
