First Day of Spring

“No matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow.” Proverb

Spring is Here!! I am in awe of how cleverly God created the climate. How intricate the weather patterns. How brilliant the seasonal changes. Each season is different and yet full of beauty and purpose.

Spring can be easily overlooked by the frigid cold of the winter and the alluring warmth of the summer. But is there anything like opening your windows and letting the crisp air fill your home? To hear the wind through the blinds and see the curtains ripple? Our home feels clean. Our home smells fresh. Spring is here!

Plants grow. Flowers blossom. Sun shines. Air is fresh.
Spring is here!

We didn’t have any extravagant plans for the first day of Spring this year. I simply wanted the kids to enjoy the beautiful 65 degree Oklahoma weather. So, we invited a few friends with us and headed to the local playground.

I didn’t get to take many pictures- instead I soaked up the sun, pushed kids on swings, heard laughter down the slides, watched them hang from the monkey bars, listened to their conversations, and smiled as they danced with no care. Spring is here!

It was a beautiful day to be outside.

This week is Spring Break and we made new friends quickly. As we were enjoying the outdoors, our new friends told us about this neat train museum just a few feet away. We had no idea it was there. Of course we had to check it out. So the nine of us headed that way.

We came across this passenger locomotive. It is 109 years old! It originally cost $21,000 in 1910, reached speeds of up to 100 mph, and weighs 390,640 pounds.

This caboose was donated in 2011 by a local resident. Inside, the kids can see what the conductor’s office looked like on the road.

The railroad museum was in the adjacent building and quite interesting. It is a replica of an actual railroad depot back in 1892. The kids enjoyed exploring the different memorabilia all donated by local residents. They also learned about telegraphy, rotary phones (old right?), the railroad system, and other pieces of history. They also were able to ring the 905’s bell before it gets put back on the locomotive. They did not want to leave.

The nerd in me awakens every time a little outdoor fun turns into an educational experience.

March 20th, 2019: a little playground fun, a little Spring sun, and a little train schooling. That’s how I like it 😊

Spring is here! Have a great Spring friends!
